In 1994, Lars Fredrikson presented a sound work in a group exhibition set in a tent, pitched in the grounds of the Château de Mallefougasse. This was followed by a series of permanent or temporary site-specific sound installations that the artist integrated into architecture or outdoor spaces. K011896E—consisting of a pure oscillating tone in the high pitch spectrum and random pulses—was created to accompany an outdoor installation powered by solar panels. It was supposed to be played at low volume at the same time as a discourse on art, through loudspeakers buried under stones, during a second exhibition at Mallefougasse in 1996, but it was never presented.
