Voyage TBF (where TBF stands for “Très Basse Fréquence”, Very Low Frequency) is one of the earliest sound works by Lars Fredrikson to have been preserved on tape. Created during a period when the artist was exploring meditation and altered states of consciousness, over a period of 45 minutes it presents the uninterrupted evolution of a single sonic object in the low-frequency spectrum. Subtle variations reveal cycles of intensity that expand and contract over time, generating instances of periodicity and shifts in sound texture. As the entire body absorbs these vibrations, prolonged listening induces sensations of rotation in the stereophonic space and the perception of harmonic partials.
